Let's see how "Son of Bum" plays it on Thursday

Let's see how "Son of Bum" is on Thursday. A short week and up to 3 starters including their two corners out for the Vikings game (possibly) Will Wade be able to set a scheme against a fired up team who obviously were looking ahead to this game and laid an egg.

Our 2 starting corners being out is a HUGE deal.

What do you think he will do?

Rams chomp chargers 35-23: The Good, Bad and Ugly

The Rams relied on their offensive firepower today to push their record to 3-0 by chomping the chargers 35-23 today in the Coliseum. The win was a costly one for the squad with injuries to Peters, Talib, Jo Jo (hand) and Easley, none of whom returned to the game. Peters was unable to put any weight on his leg, was taken to the locker room on the cart and was seen leaving the stadium under his own power but in a walking boot. Hard to say as their are conflicting reports as to whether it was his calf, ankle or both, or possibly (and let's hope not), his achilles. Talib hurt an ankle and limped into the locker room. With Minnesota coming into town Thursday night, the short week is not going to work to the Rams advantage on the defensive side of the ball. Nevertheless, offensively, the Rams piled up 33 first downs and 521 yards and if not for some self inflicted wounds via turnovers, a missed field goal and penalties (end zone INT, gurley fumble, terrible facemask on Saffold), there is no telling how many points we would have scored given the tremendous performance by Goff. Two huge special teams plans were critical to the victory, a blocked punt by Littleton that countess fell on for a TD after Goff threw an interception in the end zone and a tremendous touchdown saving tackle by Ficken at a time when our defense was quickly running out of gas. Big win for the squad against a quality opponent and a hall of fame quarterback.

The Good

Goff was absolutely tremendous today. 29-36-354 3 td's, 1 int, one really nice 16 yard run and qb rating of 123.8. He made some throws that were off the charts spectacular, notably one down the sideline to Woods that was as good an anything Dan Marino or John Elway could have done. He showed real mobility in the pocket and much better judgment with his check downs and uses of Gurley on the screens and outlet passes. One really bad throw in the end zone to Everett (Fouts said Everett ran a lousy route) that i am sure Goff would love to have back. At one point, he hit 13 passes in a row and had excellent rhythm and pocket presence. The touchdown throw to Kupp was all about Goff not panicking and keeping the play alive and his eyes downfield. One yard short of his career high today and clearly improving and continuing to get more confident. As long as we continue to keep him clean in the pocket and our receivers healthy, the sky is the limit for Goff, who just turned 24!

The receivers were excellent again today. Woods was the biggest star (despite one bad downfield holding penalty) with 10-104 and two td's. Cooks showed the motor again today 7-90 and a nice run or two (he did have two drops, one on a long ball that he drew a penalty on). Kupp had the great broken tackle td for 53 yards and wound up 4-71 despite getting one called back late in the game on what might have been a clincher but for a bad penalty on Saffold. One nice catch and run for Higbee and one nice catch...

Rams Outlast Chargers With 35-23 Win, Improve to 3-0

Myles Simmons - RAMS INSIDER

Having to combat significant injuries and a hot Chargers offense, the Rams performed well enough to come away with a 35-23 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season.

But even as the Rams win this one, they may have lost a starter for a significant period of time. Cornerback Marcus Peters was carted to the locker room during the second quarter after suffering what was an apparent lower-leg injury. Later on in the period, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Peters sustained a calf injury and would not return to the game.

Nevertheless, the Rams were able to shut down the Chargers’ offense well enough in the second half to come away with the victory.

The home team came out firing on offense, racking up 181 total yards in the first quarter alone to take a 14-6 lead. Though the Rams moved the ball well on the first drive, running back Todd Gurley fumbled after catching a pass out of the backfield to give the Chargers an extra possession.

The Chargers took over at their own 24, but the defense held strong to ensure there were no points off the turnover.

When the Rams got the ball back, they got to work and got on the board with an 80-yard drive. Quarterback Jared Goff connected with Gurley for 16 yards on a swing pass, wide receiver Robert Woods for 16 yards over the middle, and then tight end Tyler Higbee for 15 yards on the left side to put the Rams in scoring territory.

Though a 3rd-and-7 catch over the middle to wideout Brandin Cooks initially appeared as if it was a 17-yard touchdown, the play was overturned as Cooks’ knee was apparently down at the Chargers’ one. But it was no matter, as Gurley took in the next play from scrimmage to give the Rams an early 7-0 lead.

The visitors responded with a 42-yard touchdown from quarterback Philip Rivers to wideout Mike Williams — albeit with a missed extra point — the Rams came right back with another strong drive to increase their lead.

Goff connected with wideout Cooper Kupp over the middle to move the chains on 3rd-and-6 from the Rams’ 29. And then he scrambled up the middle 16 yards to take the club into Chargers territory. Consecutive receptions by Woods and Cooks moved the home team up to the visitors’ three, where Goff would connect with Woods once again on a three-yard touchdown over the middle.

That was the last drive of the first quarter, and the Rams’ ended it with 14 first downs to the Chargers’ two, and 4-of-4 in third-down efficiency. Goff also finished the first period 13-of 14 for 141 yards with a touchdown — good for a 132.4 passer rating.

Now in the second quarter, the Rams’ next offensive possession looked like it would end with at least three points. But Goff was intercepted on 3rd-and-5 from the Chargers’ 10 by safety Derwin James in the end zone.

Instead of taking a knee for a touchback, James elected to try...
